ABOUT BODYPAINT

WHAT EXACTLY IS BODYPAINT (ALSO KNOWN AS BODY ART)?

Bodypainting is the process whereby artwork is created by painting or gluing elements directly to the skin of a model or actor. There are so many forms of body art out there that the genre is incredibly broad. It can be as small as an extension of a facepaint design flowing down the neck onto a chest or arm all the way to the whole body being painted with intricate details. It can have the model almost fully clothed or completely nude and everything in between. There really are no rules with what is able to be called body art apart from it has to be done on a live person and extend past the neck.

IS BODYPAINT “EROTICA” OR “PORNOGRAPHY”?

Bodypainting is only as sexual as the artist wishes to make it. To say there are not artists out there who like to blur the line between art and erotica would be false, but it is no more tied to that stigma than film making as some film makers choose to use their medium to create sexual material.
Most bodypainters try to keep a very strict separation between these however.
Models often opt to wear special covers that adhere to the skin allowing a nude look without having any of the sensitive anatomy showing. These are usually prefered by the artists over a bikini as the bikini straps are very obvious and usually detracts from the artwork.

IS THERE AN AGE RESTRICTION ON BODYPAINTING?

Most bodypainters will only paint subjects that are over the age of 18 to avoid any leagal issues, however there is nothing stopping anyone of any age participating in this art form.
Obviously there would be decisions made differently when designing a piece for an underage model so as to avoid any appearance of impropriety. These would be concerning ways to cover up any sensitive areas of the body.

WHO WOULD HIRE A BODYPAINTER?

There is such a broad spectrum of clients that could use the services of a bodypainter.
Here is a list of some: Ladies wanting a shoot for a special occasion (anniversay, birthday etc), Publications (magazines/street press), Stock photography services, Photographers, Models, Corporations wanting pieces done for events or functions, Nightclubs, Film and Television Directors & Producers, Pregnant belly painting, Performance Artists, Dancers, Theatre Directors & Producers, Dance Parties, Fashion Shows Advertising Agencies and the list goes on and on.
